The Short Version "2027 Duramax" means two different engines: the 3.0L Duramax in the redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500 and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 in the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD. The 1500's 3.0L Duramax makes 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. The HD diesel gets a new code for 2027, L6P, replacing the L5P. GM has not released its displacement, horsepower or torque. For reference, the 2026 6.6L Duramax makes 470 hp and 975 lb-ft and tows up to 36,000 lb in the 3500 HD. A new code means GM changed the engine in some way. It does not say the engine is larger or more powerful. Industry reports have speculated about a larger displacement and GM has not confirmed it, so we would treat any 2027 number as a guess until GM releases the ratings.
