The Short Version

  • The 2027 Silverado 3500 HD dually is the current heavy-duty truck with new engine codes, not a redesign: the gas V8 is now listed as L8S and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 as L6P.
  • GM has not released 2027 towing, payload or pricing.
  • The 2026 3500 HD tows up to 36,000 lb on a gooseneck, 32,000 lb on a fifth-wheel and 20,000 lb conventionally, with the Duramax and Max Trailering Package.
  • The 2026 3500 HD carries up to 7,234 lb of payload and starts at $46,800 for the Work Truck.
  • Trims are Work Truck, LT, LTZ and High Country.

If you pull a gooseneck flatbed, a stock trailer or an equipment hauler around Northwest Arkansas, the 3500 HD dually is the truck you are shopping. Here is what we can say about the 2027, and the 2026 numbers that show where it stands. Our 2026 Silverado 3500HD page covers the range.

What is a dually, and who needs one?

A dually has dual rear wheels: four tires on the rear axle instead of two. The wider, steadier stance is what lets a 3500 HD carry and pull the heaviest loads, and it is why the top towing number belongs to the dually. The tradeoff is width: the fenders are wider, so tight lots and narrow gates take more care. Our 2026 Silverado 3500 DRW page shows current dually trucks.

A dually makes sense for fifth-wheel campers, large livestock and horse trailers, equipment haulers and anyone who tows near the limit on a regular basis. If your trailer weighs well under 20,000 pounds, a single-rear-wheel 3500 HD or a 2500HD may fit better.

2027 vs 2026: what changes

The 2027 ordering documents include the Silverado 3500 HD and the 3500 HD chassis cab. They carry the same cabs, beds and transmission as 2026, with new engine codes: L8S for the standard gas V8 and L6P for the available Duramax turbo-diesel V8. They replace the L8T and L5P. GM has not released horsepower, torque, displacement, towing, payload or pricing for the 2027 trucks, so any 2027 figure you see elsewhere is a 2026 number carried forward. The 2027 2500HD guide covers what carries over, and the 2027 Duramax guide covers the diesel.

The gross combined weight rating tops out at 43,900 pounds with the Duramax dually and Max Trailering Package. The maximum figures apply to particular cab, drive and hitch combinations, so the truck you buy may be rated lower. The 2027 ordering documents tie the Max Trailering Package to the Duramax and the gooseneck/fifth-wheel prep package.

Payload and pricing

  • Payload: up to 7,234 pounds on the 2026 3500 HD, depending on configuration.
  • Price: the 2026 3500 HD starts at $46,800 for the Work Truck, excluding destination. That is the starting price, not the price of a Duramax dually with the higher trims. GM has not released 2027 prices.

Dually or chassis cab?

If you plan to mount a flatbed, dump body or service body, a chassis cab is the usual starting point, and our 3500 chassis cab page shows those. If you want a factory pickup bed, you want the dually pickup above.

Buy a 2026 or wait for the 2027?

Buy a 2026 if you need to be pulling soon and want ratings you can check today. Wait if the engine is the deciding factor and you want to see what the new Duramax makes. Industry reports put 2027 HD production in November with no on-sale date from GM, so we would not plan a purchase around a date that has not been announced.

Common questions about the 2027 Silverado 3500 HD dually

Is the 2027 Silverado 3500 HD dually redesigned?

No. It is the current-generation heavy-duty truck with new engine codes: L8S for the gas V8 and L6P for the Duramax diesel. A full redesign is reported for the 2029 model year.

How much can the 2027 Silverado 3500 HD dually tow?

GM has not released 2027 towing ratings. The 2026 3500 HD tows up to 36,000 pounds on a gooseneck hitch, 32,000 on a fifth-wheel hitch and 20,000 on a conventional hitch, all with the Duramax and Max Trailering Package.

What is the difference between a dually and a single-rear-wheel 3500 HD?

A dually has four tires on the rear axle instead of two. That wider, steadier stance suits the heaviest trailers and loads, and the 36,000-pound gooseneck rating is a dually figure. The tradeoff is a wider truck.

Do I need the Duramax diesel to reach the maximum tow rating?

For the 2026 figures, yes. The 36,000, 32,000 and 20,000-pound ratings are Duramax figures with the Max Trailering Package. With the gas V8, the 2026 3500 HD tops out at 19,080 pounds on a gooseneck.

How much does the 2027 Silverado 3500 HD cost?

GM has not released 2027 pricing. The 2026 Silverado 3500 HD starts at $46,800 for the Work Truck, excluding destination.

Does the Silverado 3500 HD come in a ZR2?

No. The ZR2 is a 2500HD trim. The 3500 HD comes as the Work Truck, LT, LTZ and High Country.

Silverado 3500 HD: Best Heavy Duty Work Truck for Northwest Arkansas Construction

Unmatched Heavy Duty Power for Northwest Arkansas Jobsites Local professionals and fleet managers know that a standard pickup often reaches its limit when the real work begins. The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is engineered specifically for those high-demand scenarios where payload and trailering requirements exceed the ordinary. Whether you are hauling heavy machinery to a jobsite in Bentonville or transporting livestock through the Ozark foothills, this truck provides the structural integrity and raw output necessary to move massive loads with confidence. A truck in this class serves as a critical piece of equipment that must perform every single day without fail. The foundation of this capability is a high-strength roll-formed steel Durabed, which offers about 84 cu ft of cargo volume in long-bed configurations. To ensure your gear stays secure while navigating the rolling terrain around Rogers, the bed features 12 standard tie-downs rated at 500 lbs per corner. This level of utility is matched by a sophisticated 10-speed automatic transmission that comes standard across the entire lineup, providing smooth power delivery even when the truck is pushed to its maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating. Prospective buyers can evaluate this heavy-duty powerhouse at our Bentonville location right on Moberly Lane. For specific questions about current availability or fleet requirements, please call (479) 319-2494. Finding the exact configuration that matches specific work needs is our primary commitment to every customer. Table of Contents Duramax Diesel vs Gas V8 Performance and Towing Capabilities Payload Capacity and Heavy Duty Configurations for Local Professionals Comparing Silverado 3500 HD and 2500 HD Utility and Value Inside the Cabin: Premium Tech and Driver Centric Comfort Choosing the Right Trim: From Work Truck to High Country Luxury Quick Answers for Prospective Silverado 3500 HD Buyers Start Your Heavy Duty Journey at George Nunnally Chevrolet Duramax Diesel vs Gas V8 Performance and Towing Capabilities Choosing the right powerplant for your 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD depends entirely on the weight of the trailers you intend to pull. The standard 6.6L V8 gasoline engine is a robust choice for many, delivering 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. This engine is highly capable for conventional towing and is a favorite for those who prioritize a lower initial purchase price while still requiring the frame of a one-ton truck. However, for those who frequently move the heaviest loads, the available Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 is the definitive answer. This diesel engine produces a massive 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a maximum available trailering capacity of up to 36,000 lbs when properly equipped. Engine & Performance Feature Standard across all trims Engine 6.6L V8 Transmission Automatic Drivetrain 4WD Fuel Economy Feature Standard across all trims Fuel Type Diesel The 2026 model year continues to offer the In-Vehicle Trailering App and Hitch View, which simplify the connection process. For local drivers who find themselves merging onto the highway with a large trailer in Springdale, the available Transparent Trailer View uses multiple camera angles to allow the driver to virtually "see through" the trailer, significantly improving rearward visibility. Both the gas and diesel engines are paired with the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, which is specifically tuned to handle the high-torque demands of heavy-duty hauling. Annual mileage and the intensity of towing are the primary factors in weighing the long-term value of these powertrains. While the diesel offers unmatched torque, the gasoline V8 remains a versatile and reliable partner for daily utility. Shoppers can also browse our used vehicle inventory to see various configurations currently in stock. Keeping a truck in top condition is vital for its longevity, and owners can visit us for a certified oil change performed by technicians who specialize in these heavy-duty systems. Payload Capacity and Heavy Duty Configurations for Local Professionals The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD distinguishes itself from the 2500HD most clearly when you look at the rear axle. This model is available with a Dual Rear Wheel (DRW) configuration, often referred to as a "dually," which provides the stability and surface area needed for the highest payload and gooseneck towing ratings. A properly configured Regular Cab model with the dual-rear-wheel axle can handle a maximum payload of approximately 7,442 lbs. This makes the 3500HD the primary choice for industries like construction, agriculture, and heavy hauling where a slide-in camper or a bed full of gravel is a common occurrence. Dimensions & Capacity Feature Standard across all trims Seating Capacity 6 Length 235.6 Width 96.8 Height 80.2 Beyond the axle choice, you can tailor the truck to your team's size with three distinct cab styles: Regular Cab, Double Cab, and the spacious Crew Cab. While the Crew Cab is a favorite for those who need to transport a full work crew or a family, the Regular Cab remains a staple for commercial applications where bed length is the priority. The truck is offered in two bed lengths, 6.75-ft and 8-ft, though it is important to note that the dual-rear-wheel setup and the longest bed are typically paired with the Crew Cab for maximum utility. Local business owners often prioritize the transparency of a vehicle's history when making a fleet investment. Our selection of Carfax 1-owner vehicles provides a documented history for those considering a pre-owned heavy-duty truck. Having a truck that can handle a 14,000-lb maximum GVWR means you can take on bigger contracts and move more material in a single trip, directly impacting your bottom line. Comparing Silverado 3500 HD and 2500 HD Utility and Value The question we get most often involves the specific differences between the 2500HD and the 3500HD. While they share the same aggressive styling and engine options, the 3500HD is built for those who consistently operate at the upper limits of heavy-duty capability. The 3500HD offers a higher Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and is the only model in the lineup that allows for the dual-rear-wheel configuration. If your towing needs stay under 20,000 lbs, a new Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD might provide all the strength you need with a slightly different ride quality. However, if you are looking for a new Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD, you are investing in the maximum frame strength Chevrolet offers. Pricing Feature Work Truck LT LTZ High Country Starting MSRP $63,794 $77,144 $86,640 $92,865 Lowest starting MSRP: Work Truck at $63,794 The pricing for the 2026 Silverado 3500HD reflects its professional-grade components. The entry-level Work Truck starts at $63,794, providing a focused, no-nonsense tool for the job. Moving up to the LT trim brings a starting MSRP of $77,144, while the more feature-rich LTZ starts at $86,640. For those who want the absolute pinnacle of Chevrolet luxury and capability, the High Country begins at $92,865. For many buyers, the decision comes down to the specific hitch type; if you require a new Silverado 3500 DRW for fifth-wheel or gooseneck applications, the 3500HD is the necessary choice. Drivers wondering if it is time to upgrade to a one-ton model can value your trade-in to see how much equity can be applied toward a newer vehicle. For those whose needs are more centered around daily commuting and lighter towing, we also carry the new Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which offers excellent efficiency and comfort for lighter duties. Our goal is to ensure you don't buy more truck than you need, but also that you never find yourself under-equipped for the task at hand. Inside the Cabin: Premium Tech and Driver Centric Comfort The days of heavy-duty trucks having sparse, uncomfortable interiors are long gone. The 2026 Silverado 3500HD features a modern cabin designed to serve as a mobile office. On LT trims and above, you are greeted by a massive 13.4-inch diagonal color touch-screen display and a 12.3-inch reconfigurable Driver Information Center. This setup allows you to monitor vital vehicle stats, navigation, and trailering data simultaneously. The layout is intuitive, with physical knobs for volume and climate control that are easy to operate even if you are wearing work gloves. Comfort is a priority for those long hauls across the state. Available features like heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a head-up display help reduce driver fatigue. The Crew Cab models provide generous legroom for rear-seat passengers, along with dedicated climate vents to keep the whole team comfortable. Storage is also abundant, with a large center console bin and available hidden compartments under the rear seats to keep tools or valuables out of sight. Regular check-ups are essential to keep these advanced electronic systems and cabin features functioning perfectly. Our service and parts department is staffed by experts who understand the complex wiring and infotainment systems found in these modern pickups. Whether you are using the integrated Google built-in features or connecting via wireless Apple CarPlay, the cabin of the Silverado 3500HD is built to keep you connected and productive from the moment you leave the driveway until the job is done. Choosing the Right Trim: From Work Truck to High Country Luxury The WT (Work Truck) serves as the backbone of the lineup, featuring the 6.6L V8 engine and the 10-speed Allison automatic transmission as standard equipment. It is designed for durability and ease of cleaning, making it perfect for muddy jobsites. The Custom trim adds a bit more visual flair and convenience features, while the LT is often cited as the "sweet spot" for many buyers because it introduces the larger touchscreen and more advanced trailering tech. For the driver who wants a blend of high-end utility and premium materials, the LTZ offers perforated leather-appointed front seating and advanced safety tech like Lane Departure Warning. At the top of the range, the High Country represents the ultimate expression of the Silverado HD. It includes exclusive trim details, premium audio, and virtually every towing assist feature as standard. While we specialize in these heavy-duty machines, we know that some of our customers are also looking for efficient secondary vehicles for the family. In those cases, we might show them a new Chevy Bolt for city driving, but for the heavy lifting, the Silverado 3500HD remains the undisputed leader of our lot. What's New: 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD in Bentonville, Siloam, NWA Originally published March 28, 2026 · Updated September 20, 2026 2026 Silverado 2500HD High Country shown. The 2027 keeps the same cabs, trims and transmission. The Short Version The 2027 Silverado 2500HD is the same truck as the 2026, not a redesign. Cabs, trims, colors and the 10-speed automatic carry over. The change is under the hood: the standard gas V8 is now listed as L8S and the available Duramax turbo-diesel V8 as L6P. GM has not released 2027 horsepower, torque, towing, payload or prices for the HD trucks. Production is reported to start in November. No on-sale date has been announced. The next full redesign is reported for the 2029 model year. Drivers in Bentonville, Siloam Springs and across Northwest Arkansas keep asking whether the 2027 Silverado 2500HD is a new truck. It is not. It is the current heavy-duty Silverado with new engine codes, and the 2026 Silverado 2500HD hub still describes the truck itself. The trims are unchanged, so the guide applies to the 2027 too. Want to see one long-bed configuration? Here is a 2026 2500HD LTZ long bed. What changes: two new engine codes The 2027 ordering documents list the standard gas engine as L8S, a V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing. The available Duramax turbo-diesel V8 is listed as L6P. They replace the L8T gas V8 and the L5P Duramax in the 2026 truck. A new engine code means GM changed the engine in some way. It does not say how much, and it does not say power went up. Industry reports describe the gas engine as an updated version of the 6.6L V8, and they say the new Duramax's size has not been confirmed. GM has confirmed neither point. What GM has not released yet Horsepower and torque for either engine. The displacement of the new Duramax. Towing and payload ratings. Starting prices for any trim. No. It is the current-generation truck. The cabs, trims, colors and 10-speed automatic carry over from 2026, and the change is new engine codes. A full redesign is reported for the 2029 model year. What engines does the 2027 Silverado 2500HD have? A standard gas V8 listed as L8S and an available Duramax turbo-diesel V8 listed as L6P. They replace the L8T and L5P engines in the 2026 truck. GM has not released horsepower, torque or the new Duramax's displacement. How much will the 2027 Silverado 2500HD cost? GM has not released 2027 pricing. Power Performance Specs of the 2027 Duramax 3500 Diesel Engine Originally published March 24, 2026 · Updated September 20, 2026 2026 Silverado 3500 HD LTZ dually shown. The Duramax diesel is available on every HD trim. The Short Version "2027 Duramax" means two different engines: the 3.0L Duramax in the redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500 and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 in the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD. The 1500's 3.0L Duramax makes 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. The HD diesel gets a new code for 2027, L6P, replacing the L5P. GM has not released its displacement, horsepower or torque. For reference, the 2026 6.6L Duramax makes 470 hp and 975 lb-ft and tows up to 36,000 lb in the 3500 HD. Searches for the 2027 Duramax turn up a mix of numbers, because Chevrolet now sells two very different diesels under that name. Here is which is which, what has been released and what has not. It is the diesel behind our Silverado 3500HD trucks. The HD diesel: what L6P means The 2027 ordering documents for the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD list the available diesel as L6P, a Duramax turbo-diesel V8. It replaces the L5P used in the 2026 truck. The documents give no displacement, horsepower or torque, and the standard gas engine moves from L8T to L8S at the same time. A new code means GM changed the engine in some way. It does not say the engine is larger or more powerful. Industry reports have speculated about a larger displacement and GM has not confirmed it, so we would treat any 2027 number as a guess until GM releases the ratings. The 2027 Silverado 2500HD guide covers what else carries over. What the 2026 6.6L Duramax delivers Power: 470 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 975 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm. Transmission: Allison 10-speed automatic. Towing, Silverado 3500 HD: up to 36,000 pounds on a gooseneck, 32,000 on a fifth-wheel and 20,000 on a conventional hitch, with the Max Trailering Package. Warranty: the Duramax powertrain is covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles. Fluids: the Duramax uses diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), which you keep topped up. The 2027 ordering documents tie the Max Trailering Package to the Duramax and the gooseneck/fifth-wheel prep package, the same pairing as 2026. Our 2500HD vs 3500HD comparison shows how the two trucks split those ratings. Our 2027 Silverado 1500 towing guide and the specs page cover the 1500. Which Duramax fits your work? Daily driving and lighter trailers: the 3.0L in the 1500, up to 12,000 pounds. The 2027 ordering documents list a Duramax turbo-diesel V8 with a new code and no displacement, so we will not guess. What is the L6P Duramax?
