GM Authority reports production starting November 16 for Crew Cab, November 23 for Double Cab and November 30 for Regular Cab. The outlet calls the dates tentative. Trucks cannot reach dealers before production starts, and GM has not said how long after that they take to arrive. The redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500 is a different truck on a different schedule: expected on sale at the end of 2026. The Duramax diesel is available on every HD trim. The Short Version "2027 Duramax" means two different engines: the 3.0L Duramax in the redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500 and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 in the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD. The 1500's 3.0L Duramax makes 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. The HD diesel gets a new code for 2027, L6P, replacing the L5P. GM has not released its displacement, horsepower or torque. For reference, the 2026 6.6L Duramax makes 470 hp and 975 lb-ft and tows up to 36,000 lb in the 3500 HD. Searches for the 2027 Duramax turn up a mix of numbers, because Chevrolet now sells two very different diesels under that name. Here is which is which, what has been released and what has not. The HD diesel: what L6P means The 2027 ordering documents for the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD list the available diesel as L6P, a Duramax turbo-diesel V8. It replaces the L5P used in the 2026 truck. The documents give no displacement, horsepower or torque, and the standard gas engine moves from L8T to L8S at the same time. A new code means GM changed the engine in some way. It does not say the engine is larger or more powerful. Industry reports have speculated about a larger displacement and GM has not confirmed it, so we would treat any 2027 number as a guess until GM releases the ratings. Transmission: Allison 10-speed automatic. Towing, Silverado 3500 HD: up to 36,000 pounds on a gooseneck, 32,000 on a fifth-wheel and 20,000 on a conventional hitch, with the Max Trailering Package. Towing, Silverado 2500 HD: up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,050 on a gooseneck or fifth-wheel, with the Max Trailering Package. Warranty: the Duramax powertrain is covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles. Fluids: the Duramax uses diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), which you keep topped up. The 2027 ordering documents tie the Max Trailering Package to the Duramax and the gooseneck/fifth-wheel prep package, the same pairing as 2026. It tows up to 12,000 pounds in a crew cab 4WD with the Max Trailering Package. It is not an HD engine, and it is a different engine from the 6.6L-class diesel in the 2500 HD and 3500 HD.
