2026 Chevy Tahoe Cargo Space and Seating

122.7 cubic feet with the rows down. 25.5 behind the third row. And one trim, only one, that seats nine.

2026 Chevrolet Tahoe interior with second and third row seating and cargo area

Fold both rear rows of a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe and you have 122.7 cubic feet of cargo volume. Leave the third row up, as most families do most of the time, and 25.5 cubic feet remain behind it. Those two numbers bracket everything this vehicle is asked to do, from a Bentonville school run to a Crystal Bridges field trip to a full load of plywood.

The Tahoe seats eight as standard, seven with second-row captain's chairs, and nine in exactly one configuration. This page covers cargo by configuration, third-row reality for actual adults, the child-seat situation, and what genuinely fits. George Nunnally Chevrolet keeps the ladder on the lot in Bentonville, and we would rather you bring your car seats and your stroller and try them in the vehicle than read anyone's table, including ours.

Cargo Volume and Configurations

Configuration Cargo volume
All three rows up25.5 cu ft behind the third row
Third row foldedChevrolet publishes 122.7 cu ft with both rows folded and 25.5 behind the third row; the behind-the-second-row figure is not published consistently, so we do not print one.
Second and third rows folded122.7 cu ft

Both rear rows fold flat. That flat load floor is a consequence of the independent rear suspension, and it is the difference between sliding a sheet of plywood in and wrestling it over a hump. The Tahoe is 211.3 inches long overall on a 120.9-inch wheelbase, so the cargo bay behind the front seats is genuinely long, not merely tall.

If 25.5 cubic feet behind a raised third row sounds tight, that is because it is. It is the tradeoff for the Tahoe's shorter body. Its longer sibling exists precisely for buyers who need to carry a full third row of people and their luggage at the same time.

Room

Interior Dimensions by Row

Third-row legroom: 34.9 inches. That is the number that decides whether this vehicle works for your family, and it is more generous than most three-row crossovers offer. An adult of average height fits back there for a run down to Springdale or a drive out to the Walmart AMP in Rogers. An adult of average height on a five-hour drive to see relatives will not thank you.

The first and second rows are not the constraint on a vehicle this size, and no one shopping a Tahoe is worried about front-seat room. What people ask about is whether a rear-facing convertible seat behind a six-foot driver leaves anyone able to sit in front. On a Tahoe, yes. On most three-row crossovers, no. That is most of why people buy one.

Seats

Seating Configurations and Flexibility

Eight passengers is the standard configuration: front buckets, a second-row bench, and a three-place third row.

Seven passengers when you specify second-row captain's chairs. They are available on the LT, RST, and Z71, and standard on the Premier and High Country. Captain's chairs buy you a walk-through to the third row, which matters enormously if the people using that row are children who cannot climb over a folded seat.

Nine passengers on the LS, with the front bench, and on no other trim. If you need a ninth seat there is exactly one Tahoe that has it, and it is the least expensive one. That is a genuinely unusual situation in this segment, and it catches people who assume the flagship must do everything the base model does.

Child seats, per the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The IIHS rates the Tahoe's LATCH hardware Good-plus, its highest grade, and specifically credits it with extra LATCH positions.

Three rear seating positions have complete lower-anchor and tether hardware. Three more offer a tether anchor only. In practice that means you can install more child seats correctly in a Tahoe than in most vehicles its size, and the anchors are easy enough to find that people actually use them.

Access

Cargo Features and Accessibility

Both rear rows fold flat from the cargo bay. The load floor sits low enough that a heavy cooler goes in without a lift, which is the practical benefit of the independent rear suspension that most reviews describe in engineering terms instead.

Higher trims add power-folding second and third rows, so the seats drop and rise from a button in the cargo area rather than a strap. If you load and unload constantly, that feature pays for itself faster than any other option on the sheet.

Reality Check

What Fits in the 2026 Tahoe?

Configuration What actually fits
Three rows up
25.5 cu ft
A full-size stroller standing upright, or four to five carry-on bags, or a week of groceries for a large family. Not a stroller and the luggage. Choose.
Third row folded
Third row down
Two adult bicycles with the front wheels off. Four large suitcases plus soft bags. A mountain bike from Coler with the seat still on it.
Both rows folded
122.7 cu ft
A sheet of plywood laid flat with the liftgate down. A full-size mattress. A weekend's worth of camping gear for six with room over the top.
Third row, adult fit34.9 inches of legroom. An average adult fits for an hour. Two teenagers fit indefinitely. Three adults across is a short-trip proposition.

The one that surprises people: a raised third row and a road trip do not coexist in a Tahoe. Twenty-five cubic feet is a stroller or the suitcases. If you regularly need seven people and their luggage on the same trip, you are shopping the wrong Chevrolet, and we will tell you so rather than sell you the one on the lot.

Family

Family-Focused Features

Three-zone automatic climate control is standard from the LS, which matters more than it sounds when the third row is occupied by people who will announce their discomfort. USB ports are accessible from every row. A 17.7-inch touchscreen and an 11-inch driver display are standard across the lineup, so no trim penalizes the family that bought the base one.

Adaptive Cruise Control is standard from the LS as well, and Super Cruise is available from the LT up. On a drive down I-49 with a full vehicle, a system that manages following distance is a safety feature and a sanity feature at the same time.

Use Cases for Northwest Arkansas Families

The trailhead run. Two bikes at Coler Mountain Bike Preserve, third row folded, both wheels on, riders in the second row. The flat floor is the whole reason the front wheels stay attached.

The Razorback Greenway weekend. Four bikes, third row down, riders across the second row and front bench. Load at the house in Bella Vista, unload at the trail, do it in reverse at dusk.

The Crystal Bridges and Momentary day. Third row up, seven people, one stroller upright behind it. This is the trip the Tahoe was built for, and 25.5 cubic feet is exactly enough.

The Beaver Lake weekend. Cooler, chairs, tubes, three kids, and a boat behind. Read the towing page first, because everything you load inside comes out of the trailer weight you can pull.
