Is the 2027 Worth Waiting For?

For most buyers, the 2027 Silverado 1500 is a genuine reason to wait. Chevrolet revealed it on June 16, 2026 as a full ground-up redesign, not a mid-cycle refresh, and it brings two all-new V8 engines, a much bigger standard screen on every trim, and Super Cruise hands-free driving on more of the lineup than ever before. It is expected to go on sale by the end of 2026.

The catch: Chevrolet has not released horsepower, towing, fuel economy, or pricing yet, and the earliest trucks are usually allocation-limited. So if you tow on a deadline, want a confirmed capability number, or are chasing end-of-model-year value, a 2026 Silverado 1500 in stock now is still the smarter buy. The full breakdown is below.

Powertrain

Engines: Two New V8s Replace the 5.3L and 6.2L

This is the headline. The 2026 Silverado runs a familiar small-block lineup: the 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder (310 horsepower, 430 lb-ft), the 5.3L V8 (355 horsepower, 383 lb-ft), the 6.2L V8 (420 horsepower, 460 lb-ft), and the 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel (305 horsepower, 495 lb-ft).

For 2027, Chevrolet introduces two next-generation Small Block V8s, a 5.7L and a 6.6L, that replace the 5.3L and 6.2L respectively. Chevrolet calls it the most powerful Silverado ever and says the truck now offers the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class, based on GM-estimated ratings. The 2.7L TurboMax carries forward in enhanced form and, importantly, moves to a 10-speed transmission. The proven 3.0L Duramax diesel stays in the lineup.

What Chevrolet has not published yet is the part truck buyers care most about: the actual horsepower, torque, and towing numbers for those new V8s. Until those land, the most capable Silverado you can put a real towing figure on is the 2026, which tows up to 13,300 pounds on a conventional hitch with the available Duramax diesel when properly equipped (the 6.2L V8 tops out at 13,200 pounds). If your decision hinges on a confirmed tow rating, that points to a 2026.

Interior & Technology

Bigger Screens and More Super Cruise

The 2026 splits its cabin tech by trim. Work Truck and Custom get a 7-inch screen, while LT and above step up to a 13.4-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch driver display. Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driving system that also works while towing, is reserved for the High Country.

The 2027 erases most of that hierarchy. A 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch driver information center are now standard on every trim, so even a Work Truck gets the big screens. ZR2 and High Country add a standard 11.5-inch front passenger screen, a head-up display, and a rear camera mirror for more than 60 inches of total display. And Super Cruise is now available across more of the lineup than before, not just the flagship. For Northwest Arkansas drivers who spend real time on I-49, that wider Super Cruise availability is one of the most meaningful upgrades.

Trims & Styling

Nine Trims Become Seven, and LT Becomes “Silverado”

The 2026 lineup runs nine trims, from the Work Truck up through Custom, LT, RST, Custom Trail Boss, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, High Country, and the off-road ZR2. For 2027 Chevrolet simplifies to seven: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country. The mid-lineup LT is renamed simply “Silverado,” and on the Silverado 4WD the Z71 off-road package (skid plates, hill descent control, off-road suspension) is now standard.

The three lifted trims get sharper: the 2027 Trail Boss rides on 34-inch tires with a 2-inch factory lift and a dedicated off-road hood, while the ZR2 steps up to 35-inch tires, standard front and rear electronic lockers, and race-proven Multimatic DSSV dampers. The High Country becomes more clearly the flagship with standard 22-inch wheels, a new Tritan Satin grille, and a Silverado-first panoramic sunroof.

Outside, all of it sits under an all-new body: new LED headlights and taillights, more pronounced wheel-opening moldings, and standard dual exhaust on Custom and above. The 2026 keeps the styling Silverado shoppers already know, which some buyers will actually prefer.

Even the fleet-focused 2027 Work Truck now gets the big standard screens.
